My name is Jesse Kearse, I am a postdoctoral researcher affiliated with the Department of Geophysics, Graduate School of Science, Kyoto University, working under Yoshihiro Kaneko. I received my Ph.D. from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand in 2024.

I am working on two research projects: 1) Understanding how earthquake rupture propagates using simulations and observations. In this project I am interested in near-field seismic recordings of large magnitude earthquakes, and using dynamic rupture simulations to understand the source processes that produce the observed ground shaking. 2) Developing and testing machine learning-based tools to forecast seismicity. In this project I am using machine-learning tools to forecast synthetic seismicity patterns from earthquake cycle models.
